While each university offers a program of study to suit their own academic structure, students at each institution are, in general, offered four core units that introduce them to the key concepts and principles underlying pain management procedures and methods. Students are also able to choose from a range of elective subjects, providing an opportunity to study areas of interest in more depth and to tailor the program to their own clinical needs.
Core units

- Pain Mechanisms and Contributors
- Principles of Pain Treatment and Management
- Pain Conditions
Elective units include
- Neurobiology of Pain

The program is taught in distance mode and delivered entirely online. Students are provided with a range of learning materials including study guides, multimedia resources, self-assessment activities and selected readings from relevant journals and textbooks. A key feature is the interactive online discussions, which enable students from a range of disciplines to bring unique perspectives to a range of clinical problems.
